This interior remodel created new office space and an attached warehouse area in the old Northern Pacific Center railroad shop building. Proactive in the redevelopment of this center, the owner wanted to have an up-to-date and functional work environment, but also maintain the historic look of the building.
The original building structure remained with little alteration to the exterior. The walls inside were restored to reveal the original brick, and the heavy timber beams and rafters remained exposed. Interior walls were built four feet lower than the ceiling to emphasize the roof structure and exposed spiral ductwork. Keeping the original window sizes, the windows were replaced with energy-efficient versions.
The interior remodel includes an open office area, private offices, customer service area, engineering area, conference room, and warehouse, all within the original space.
